Jillian Michaels' Fitness Ultimatum 2009
Jillian Michaels is best known as being the tough willed fitness trainer on the US version of weight loss TV show The Biggest Loser, but now she has leant her name to this Nintendo Wii fitness title. In fact, Jillian has not just put her name on the box, she also appears in the game in video clips, dispensing advice on getting and keeping fit.
The game aims to increase your fitness levels through a mixture of different activities, some of which are actually quite bizarre, but more on that in a moment. When doing a workout you can choose from four different training styles, ranging from Weight Loss through to the more punishing Hill Climb setting which is intended to build your endurance levels.
You can also set the length of time that you wish to exercise for from 5 to 60 minutes, and choose from one of three intensity levels, but before you can start you must first create a character to represent yourself in the game.
Once you have your likeness made you can begin your exercise programme. You start off jogging for a couple of minutes and then are presented with two signposts. One leads to a particular mini game activity, whilst the other selects an activity at random from the eleven available.
The activities available are a mixed selection, featuring more obvious examples such as Boxing, Monkey Bars and Rowing through to some quite unusual tasks including the Paint Grenade Toss, railway Handcar Pump and loading a cannon and shooting it at targets! All these events are controlled using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to mimic the actions you would do in real life, and if you have a Balance Board then you can use that in addition to add extra features to the games.
Once you have completed your workout Jillian Michaels herself will normally pop up on screen to congratulate you and perhaps even offer you a fitness tip or too. These tips are split into groups including food and nutrition advice, general exercise tips and even ideas for how to keep fit when travelling.
Multiplayer
If you fancy working out with a friend then Jillian Michaels Fitness Ultimatum 2009 is happy to oblige with its Multiplayer mode. You can compete against an opponent to be the first to complete the different events, with the screen being split horizontally or vertically to allow both players to be on screen at the same time.
Multiplayer only allows for two players to compete against each other, but given the amount of room that you would need to allow more than two people to comfortably swing Wii Remotes around without hitting each other or anything else, this is probably just as well.
